Brosnan's baby son Paris...

Irish James Bond star Pierce Brosnan was celebrating yesterday after the birth of his son, Paris. The Navan born actor and his fiancee Keely Shaye Smith are "ecstatic" according to his LA publicist Dick Guttman. The baby boy entered the world at the world-famous Cedars Sinai hospital in Beverly Hills, weighing 7lbs 2oz late on Wednesday night. Mother and baby are said to be doing "very well".

Brosnan and Smith are planning to get married later this year. They were forced to put their wedding on hold after his son Sean was seriously injured in a car accident.

Brosnan rushed to the scene of the crash, close to his £7million mansion. Sean has now recovered but Brosnan was forced to postpone his wedding at Ashford Castle, Co Mayo.

Brosnan's first child, Dylan Thomas, was named after the famous Welsh poet. On top of all the excitement the Brosnan's old director Michael Apted's new film the much-anticipated film Enigma is to be distributed in the US by Paramount Pictures.

Apted, who directed the most recent James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, is waiting to hear whether he will also be directing the next one.

Speaking to news wire services he said "I don't think there are any firm plans yet for the next Bond film," he says. "I enjoyed doing the last one and I'd be happy to do another one if they ask me."
