Photos
of Bono's Dad funeral + Slane report...
Saturday night marked a historic night in the history
of Irish pop music as the world’s biggest band U2,
the pride of Ireland came home for the first of two
concerts for over 80,000 fans in the legendary Slane
Castle.
Slane
was the location of the band's first major show 20
years ago when the doubled the bill along with fellow
Irish rockers Thin Lizzy. "Thank god for
the sun. Thank god for taking my old man and away
from the pain of his old body and thank you for waiting
so long" Bono shouted as he arrived on the stage
in Slane at 8.30 pm on Saturday.
Sadly
Bono's Dad, Robert Hewson, passed away last
week after a battle with cancer. Below are some photos
of the funeral and friends that came out to support
Bono and his family.
U2
followed the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kelis
and Coldplay who has been on stage before them
during the day.
Among
the guests in the backstage area where ShowBizIreland.com
had exclusive access were VIP’s such as The Irish
Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, actor John
Hurt, racing driver Eddie Irvine, the Irish
actor Stewart Townsend and his girlfriend the
Hollywood actress Charize Theron, Boyband manager
Louis Walsh, the Irish actor Jonathan Rhys
Meyers, Hollywood star of Meet Joe Black Claire
Florani along with the comedian Lee Evans,
both of whom are filming Highbinders in Ireland
with Jackie Chan.
Other
stars who were U2’s guests were Westlife's
Brian McFadden, singers Brian Kennedy
and Paul Brady, Irish rockers The Cranberries
and MTV boss Brett Hanson.
Gerry
Corr, the father of the Corrs were there to represent
the band who are in Australia.
But the star of the day was ShowBizIreland.com's
very own favorite star Samantha Mumba who took
time out to tell us how happy she was with all the
support we give her on the site.
