U2
Leave no Grammys Behind...
Irish super group U2, picked up an amazing
4 Grammy awards last night in Los Angeles.
They
accepted the honours for Record of the Year, Best
Rock Performance, Best Pop Performance and Album of
the Year.
As the band accepted their first award of the night,
Record of the Year, for Walk On, Bono
launched into a lengthy speech.
Organisers panicked as he talked for well over the
allowed 30 - seconds. "Thank God. Being Irish, if
you get eight nominations and no awards they wouldn't
let you back in the country. So this is a public safety
issue", he said.
He then went on to thank the bands record label, manager
and his mother.
Accepting
another two awards, Bono continued thanking all and
sundry, clearly overjoyed at the tributes.
"It is an extraordinary thing to behold the sound
of a rock and roll band in full flight. The promises
that your friendship will survive being broke; The
Eighties - and maybe 20 years later you will find
yourselves at an award ceremony with people you started
out with. Wow", he gushed.
On
the group's final trip to the podium, it was The
Edge's turn to try and get a word in. He began
to explain how special things had happened to him,
when Bono suddenly grabbed the microphone saying:
"He's a guitar player. I do the talking. I'm a singer".
