U2 & Ash Awarded Q's...

Sadly the world's greatest rockers U2 were nominated in three categories at the Q Awards but failed to collect any.

Instead they were still honoured with the Q Editor's Choice title for their consistent success.

But all was not lost, Ireland's latest rockers Ash scooped the Best Single honour at the prestigious Q Awards in London capping a great year for the band who come from Northern Ireland.

Elvis Costello, who now lives in Ireland, took the Q Merit Award.

Other bands who picked up awards were Radiohead Best Act In The World Today and other winners chosen by Q magazine readers included Scottish quartet Travis, awarded the Best Album title.

Manic Street Preachers, who performed a series of concerts in Cuba earlier in the year, were named Best Live Act at the London ceremony yesterday.

Former Sex Pistol and punk icon Johnny Lydon got the Inspiration Award for artists who have left their mark on the industry and influenced the direction of today's music.

Brian Eno, founding member of Roxy Music turned ambient guru, got the Special Award while Seventies star Kate Bush won the Classic Songwriter title.
