For
the Rev. Martin Luther King, Sing...
Bono wrote U2's classic song Pride,
In the Name of Love, for assassinated black leader
Martin Luther King - now the Reverend's family
are honouring the Dubliner with a dinner.
As
the chilling line in the song goes, "early morning
April four, a shot rings out in the Memphis sky,"
the death of Martin Luther King was one of the saddest
moments of the 20th century.
Now
the man who wrote those words, Bono, will be honoured
by King's widow and the founder of the King Centre
- Coretta Scott King for his humanitarian work.
The
U2 singer has been invited to the 2004 King Centre
Salute to Greatness awards dinner in Atlanta for
work on behalf of Third World debt relief and on focusing
attention on the AIDS crisis in Africa.
Coretta
said of the dinner, "We are fortunate this year
to honour Bono for exemplifying many of the qualities
that my husband, Martin, indicated were imperative
to moving our society into the beloved community of
which he so often spoke."
