So it was no surpise that the Garda had to be called into cordon off the street as thousands of avid U2 fans gathered to get a glimpse of their idols.

The Edge, punctual as ever, arrived at around 1pm for the shoot with Bono turning up about 30 mins later in a taxi. He greeted the fans, saluted and entered by the stage door.

The U2 boys had the theatre booked out until 8.30pm but didn't rear their heads until about 1am when Larry Mullen legged it out behind a security guard to an awaiting car but Bono stopped and signed autographs for fans who had been waiting around for the whole day.
