U2 5 MTV VMA NOMS!

Irish supergroup U2 are to top this years MTV video awards with nominations for Video Of The Year, Best Group Video, Best Video From A Film, Best Special Effects From A Video, Best Editing In A Video...

However, dance act Fatboy Slim will top the list of nominations with nine. The good news is that U2 are set to perform on the night which will be on September 6th in New York Coty's Metropolitan Opera House.

MTV yesterday announced other nominees for the "2001 MTV Video Music Awards."

Fatboy Slim tops the list with nine nominations for his video for "Weapon of Choice," which is directed by Spike Jonze and features actor Christopher Walken dancing throughout the video.

In addition, U2 and Alicia Keys will perform at the Awards."

The eighteenth annual awards show will take place at New York City's Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center on Thursday, September 6, 2001. The show will be seen on all of MTV's channels around the world, reaching over 353 million households.

In the UK, the show will air exclusively live on MTV UK & Ireland at 1am, with a repeat on September 7 at 9pm.

Other top nominees tied with six nominations each are Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & Pink, Missy Elliott and *NSYNC, while Eminem, U2 and Destiny's Child all pick up five apiece.

A week after claiming that he would never break the United States, Robbie Williams picks up a remarkable three nominations for his Rock DJ video, while Coldplay, Gorillaz and David Gray ensure that this is the best ever year for British nominations at the world's biggest music video awards.

Currently on their Elevation Tour, U2 is nominated for five Video Music Awards for their music videos for Beautiful Day and Elevation Remix. The band's album All That You Can't Leave Behind has gone multi-platinum.
