U2
battle for Hanover Quay...
A planning battle started in Dublin yesterday regarding
the world's biggest band U2.
The
Irish rockers and their legal team squared up to the
Docklands Development Authority who have issued a
compulsive purchasing order on their studio on Hanover
Quay in Dublin (see pic below).
The
studio has been home to the band for the making of
their last three albums including their latest album
All that You Can't leave Behind.
Chaired
by Padraig Thorthon, the Deputy Planning Inspector
the studio was named as "lot four" on the planners
list.
Named
as U2 Limited by the Chairman the names Clayton,
Hewson, Mullen, Evans and McGuinness were
read out to the hearing.
Dozens
of waiting press hung around outside the doors of
Dublin's Gresham Hotel in order to try and catch the
band arriving to the hotel.
However, word came that the band would not be attending
as they were away in America. But, they did have a
five strong legal team in place.
U2
were named as the owner and occupiers of the studio
and the their fight to stop the Irish planners from
knocking down the building is expected to take the
next few days.
