U2
get 7 & Westlife get 3...
What a night in Dublin it was for a mixture of both
Irish and International stars at the Irish Music Awards.
Dublin
experienced an influx of celebrities last night as
the annual Meteor Awards were presented in the Point
Theatre.
Among the music stars in attendance last night included
U2, Westlife, Gabrielle, The Lighthouse Family,
Sinead O'Connor, The Cranberries and The Corrs.
One
of the main stars of the night was Enrique Iglesias,
who paid a flying visit as he was off to Monaco for
the World Music Awards straight after his performance.
Jumping
off the stage to be closer to the fans, Enrique realised
halfway through his performance that he would have
hassle getting back on the stage. Speaking to ShowBizIreland.com
Enrique said: "When I got off the stage I didn't realise
it was so high, so I had to wait till the song was
over to jump back up, I didn't want to make a fool
of myself."
Following on from their huge success at the Grammys
last week, U2 swept the board, winning 7 out of their
10 nominations.
Bono won Best Irish Songwriter and The Edge
won Best Irish Musician. Their manager Paul
McGuinness also won the Irish Industry Award.
Westlife,
who had 6 nominations, won a well deserved 3 awards.
They were in top form at an after show press conference,
despite having been stuck in a lift for 20 minutes
beforehand. Commenting on their success, Kian
said: "We are sitting here with 3 awards that we never
expected to get. We are very happy with where we are
and where Westlife are".
Award
winning diva Gabrielle also performed live last night
with her hit single Play To Win. "I had the
choice to mime but because I get so nervous I decided
to sing live. It helps me deal with it", she explained.
Among
the celebrities presenting awards were Keith Duffy,
Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell, Dave Stewart
of Eurythmics fame and legendary actor John
Hurt.
The
after show party was held in trendy Cafe En Seine,
and as expected, was mobbed by hundreds of waiting
fans.
Expect
tons of photos from the night in tomorrow's update
