U2
Elevate in Miami...
Just like in Stockholm for their MTV awards
performance, just like in The Astoria for their secret
gig and just like at the Brit awards for their
wild live set. ShowBizIreland.com reporters
were with U2 in Miami on Saturday for the launch of
their 80 date world tour.
Supported
by their fellow Irish supergroup The Corrs
U2's Elevation tour opened to a very lucky
20,000 fans late on Saturday night in the National
Car Rental Center.
The
show image was one with a stage shaped into a heart
and Bono jumping off it frequently. Elevation,
was the opening song, followed by Beautiful Day,
during which four huge screens suspended high above
the stage lit up each one showed black and white shots
of different band members.
Bono shouted to the crowd, "So Miami. We've been
here before. We recorded a lot of POP here. We would
have recorded more if it wasn't so much fun on the
beach."
U2 played nearly nearly the same set they had done
in London with over two hours of classic U2 with a
serious portion of hits from their current All
That You Can't Leave Behind which has already
sold 3 million copies in the states..
And
just like London Stuck In A Moment was dedicated
to the late Michael Hutchence, while for The
Sweetest Thing, dedicated to Bono's wife Ali.
During this Bono took to the piano himself!!
Discotheque
was followed by Staring At The Sun, during
which a video wall came on stage with videos from
the Irish artist Catherine Owens.
During
New York massive drapes surrounding the stage
with giant silhouettes of band. This was followed
by the bands first hit I Will Follow and Sunday
Bloody Sunday.
Just like at the Brits in London last month the show
climaxed with Bono diving headfirst into the audience
and disappearing from view. He finished by saying,
"Thanks for following us all these years,"
he said to massive cheers.
"Thanks
for giving us such a great life, how was first night
for you ?"
